Loss Prevention Seminars prove a great success!

ECRA hosted two extremely successful Loss Prevention seminars in Melbourne and Sydney entitled “Sell More, Lose Less: Introducing New Loss Prevention”. Both events completely sold out prior meaning over 200 delegates were on hand to engage in collaborative discussion and interaction and bring a broad view of the underlying issues behind shrinkage and waste to the seminars.

Generous sponsorship commitment from Checkpoint and Asset Security Concepts, along with administrative support from the Australian Food and Grocery Council provided the opportunity to bring excellent international speakers to the event, including Adrian Beck, Head of Department of Criminology at University of Leicester (UK); Colin Peacock, Director of Global In Store Execution at Procter & Gamble; and Neil Matthews, Vice President Europe from Checkpoint.

The major Australian retailers, Coles and Woolworths also provided great levels of commitment to ensuring the success of the seminars. Senior executives Andy Coleman  (Coles) and Craig Partridge (Woolworths) opened the Melbourne and Sydney  seminars respectively, with executives overseeing loss prevention at the retailers Martin Sayer (Coles) and Danny Baldwin (Woolworths) presenting their companies’ perspectives, plans and objectives at both seminars.

The seminars provided delegates the opportunity  to benchmark their own businesses against the ‘Loss Prevention Pyramid’ and to use the ECR Loss Prevention Road Map, a tool designed to help retailers and suppliers identify operational failures and develop new ways to sell more and lose less. The New Loss Prevention concept looked at why existing approaches are failing, the challenges presented by new trends and technologies in retailing and why operational failures are the root cause of most retail loss.  In addition, international examples of engagement between suppliers, retailers and solution providers were explored.

The ECRA Loss Prevention Group now has the opportunity to consider the key learnings from the seminars as it formulates a platform for driving success in loss prevention in Australasia and defines a structure best suited to progressing the program. ECRA thanks Checkpoint, ASC and all those involved in driving the success of the Sell More, Lose Less seminars.
